GENERAL INFORMATION AND GENERAL CRITERIA FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS MASTER'S PROGRAMME
The discipline of International Relations has focused on the analysis of phenomena such as diplomacy or war in the course of history. However, especially in the twentieth century, with the globalisation of these phenomena, this discipline has aimed to analyse and make sense of political, social, economic and cultural relations in more depth. This has required international relations to have a dynamic character and to be open to continuous innovations.
The primary aim of the department is to equip students with a competent knowledge of the history, functioning, legal framework, interstate relations and Turkey's position in the international system. In addition, the economic foundations of international relations are increasing their influence on world politics and foreign policies of states.
The most prominent feature of the International Relations Master's Programme is that while closely following the developments in the contemporary world, it also includes topics such as the Çanakkale Wars, Turkish-Greek Relations, International Maritime Law and Maritime Problems, which are closely related to the geography of Çanakkale, the Aegean Sea and the Straits region. Apart from these, faculty members who are experts in fields such as Asia and South East Asia, Caucasus, European Union, Cyprus, International Integrations, International Security and International Terrorism have also contributed to the Master's Programme.
With the support of faculty members who have made distinguished national and international publications in their fields of expertise, the programme aims to develop not only the analytical skills of its students and provide them with the ability to conduct research independently and within the academic discipline, but also the ability to present these researches in writing.
Brief History and Facilities of the Programme
Founded on 3 July 1992 with the Law No. 3837, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University started its education and training life with Çanakkale Faculty of Education, Çanakkale Vocational School and Biga Vocational School, which were transferred from Trakya University in 1992-1993 academic year. With 1 Graduate Education Institute, 18 Faculties, 4 Colleges, 13 Vocational Schools, our university has reached a total of 36 educational units.
The Institute of Graduate Education, to which our department is affiliated, aims to contribute to the scientific and technological development of the country and to be innovative. Before 2020, the institutes of our university were divided into Institute of Natural Sciences, Institute of Social Sciences, Institute of Educational Sciences and Institute of Health Sciences. In 2020, all institutes were gathered under a single body and named the Institute of Graduate Education.
The International Relations Master's Programme was opened in 1994/95 academic year and received its first students in 2002/2003 academic year.
Vision and Mission of the Programme
Mission The main mission of the Master's Programme in International Relations of the Graduate School of Graduate Education of ÇOMÜ is to equip students with a competent knowledge of the history, functioning, legal framework, inter-state relations and Turkey's position in the international system. In addition, the main objectives of the programme are to train academicians who can follow the developments in the international arena, think analytically and make scientific contributions to the literature.
Vision ÇOMÜ Graduate School of Graduate Studies International Relations Master's Programme acts with the vision of educating competent, knowledgeable, innovative and well-equipped academicians in the field. In this context, making scientific contributions to the literature in the field of International Relations is among the main objectives of the programme.
Aim of the Programme
The primary objective of the programme is to equip students with a competent knowledge of the history, functioning and legal framework of the international system, interstate relations and Turkey's position in the system. In addition, the programme also aims to raise individuals who are participatory, self-confident and able to closely follow and analyse developments in the world.

The objectives of the International Relations Master's Programme are as follows:
To provide students with a competent knowledge about the history, functioning, legal framework, interstate relations and Turkey's position in the international system
To provide an in-depth assessment of the effects of economic foundations of international relations on world politics and foreign policies of states
To provide students with information about the methodology to be followed in their studies such as homework, presentation, article, thesis
To enable students to use at least one foreign language (English) at an advanced level in order to follow and evaluate the literature in foreign languages as well as national sources
To provide students with the knowledge and skills to define, interpret and analyse national and international processes, their developments and problems in the perspective of history and future with scientific methods.
